Symptoms
Venous Reflux ("insufficiency")
Venous reflux is caused by pooling of blood in the legs under pressure due to venous valves that co not work correctly (see link to “venous valves”). Over time, this can cause leg pain, swelling, discoloration (darkening of the skin), ulcers (sores), scarring of the skin, and even bleeding. Patients in whom this condition is found on venous duplex ultrasound can have a variety of treatments to improve it, and avoid these problems in the future, or improve them if they are already present, with use of state of the art, minimally invasive techniques.
