Michael Ombrellino, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Michael Ombrellino has been with the Vein Institute of New Jersey since July of 2000 and has since developed a very successful and respected vein and peripheral arterial surgery practice.

Born in Ragusa, Italy and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Dr. Ombrellino attended the State University of New York at Binghamton for his undergraduate studies and received his medical degree with honors from Universita Degli Studi in Bologna, Italy. Upon his return to the United States, Dr Ombrellino trained in General Surgery at the State University of New York at Brooklyn, Health Science Center, and completed his vascular surgery fellowship at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, New York. During his fellowship training he also served at the world-renowned Picower Institute for Medical Research where he co-authored numerous research publications.

Dr Ombrellino is board certified in both General and Vascular Surgery. He is an Attending Surgeon at Morristown Medical Center (MMC), concentrating his practice to the advanced treatment of venous and arterial disease.   He served as chief of the section of Vascular Surgery at Morristown Medical Center until the end of 2010.  He continues to be an active and involved member of the Department of Surgery and Vascular Surgery and currently serves on multiple committees, including serving as acting chairman of the Performance Improvement Committee for the Department of Surgery at MMC.  He is also a member of the board of the New Jersey Vascular Society and holds an academic appointment as Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, in Newark, New Jersey.

Dr. Ombrellino, remains an active member of the American College of Surgeons, Eastern Vascular Society, The Peripheral Vascular Society, The Medical Society of New Jersey, Morris County Medical Society and the Vascular Society of New Jersey.

Dr. Ombrellino was named “Teacher of the Year” at the State University of New York in 1998 and received the honor twice again as an Attending Surgeon at Morristown Medical Center, latest being in 2011. He has also received the “Thomas W. Pollock award for Professionalism, Compassion, Dedication and Abiding Concern for Patient Welfare.

Dr. Ombrellino’s primary goal is for the well being and care of his patients.  He successfully achieves this goal, by administering informative, compassionate care while constantly obtaining the knowledge and skills of the latest and most minimally invasive vascular surgical techniques.
